Author Carl Hiassen discusses his new book Razor Girl at an event with Books & Books on Wednesday, September 28th at 7:30 pm. Hiassen has authored thirteen previous novels, including the best-selling Star Island and Skinny Dip, four best-selling children's books and works of nonfiction. Born and raised in Florida, his works often take inspiration from the Sunshine State, using the Everglades, Florida Keys and Miami as a backdrop. 

Razor Girl is partly based on true events and takes readers on a adventure with some of Hiassen's wildest characters. Purchase of Razor Girl is required, and entitles the buyer entry for two to the event. Space is limited.

James Bay Plays at The Fillmore

English Singer-songwriter James Bay makes a stop at The Fillmore Miami Beach on Wednesday, September 21, at 8:00 pm to play songs from his debut album Chaos and Calmreleased last year. 

In 2014, the guitarist released his single "Hold Back the River", which has been certified platinum, just before his album which rose to peak positions on charts all over the world. Bay was first inspired to play guitar after hearing Eric Clapton's Layla. He was discovered by record execs after a fan uploaded a video to YouTube of him at an open mic night in a London.

The Portland-based band Josephformed by three sisters, opens. There are limited tickets available. The Fillmore is a venue at the historic art deco Jackie Gleason Theater in the heart of South Beach.

Dot FiftyOne Gallery Opens New Space

Dot FiftyOne Gallery simultaneously celebrates the opening of their new space and a new exhibition this week on Thursday, September 15th. In Gallery 1 Hernan Cedola showcases his piece Slow in My Shadow while in Gallery 2 Dudu Quintanilha exhibits Passinho.

Dot Fiftyone is a Miami based gallery with a focus in contemporary art, that also aims to be a production laboratory for conceptual and contemporary art. Relocating from Wynwood, where the gallery has been located since 2002, the new location will have over 3000 feet of space, which will allow the gallery to build out programming to include aspiring exhibitions and performances in the future.
