Art Week: The Fairs to Know

The centerpiece of Art Week is Art Basel, a world-renowned fair and the country's largest, that takes place at the Miami Beach Convention center for four days and showcases an array of galleries and artists from around the globe. But it's the satellite fairs, 20 and counting, that offer collectors and art enthusiasts a glimpse at the art world. Here, a list of the Art Week fairs to know and a brief of what to expect.
Art Basel
The year the centerpiece of Art Week, Art Basel Miami Beach, celebrates its 15th edition. The largest fair with a world-renowned reputation, Art Basel Miami Beach hosts 269 established exhibitors from over 29 countries. The focus of the fair is contemporary and modern art, with works by over 4,000 artists. It takes place at the not-yet-finished Miami Beach Convention Center and opens on Wednesday, November 30th.

Design Miami/
Heralded as the fair for design during Art Week, Design Miami takes places behind the convention center and features the best in design from around the globe. Here, furniture, decor and art objects are center stage with a massive display from institutions and brands such as Fendi, Panerai, and much, more.

Miami Project
Now in its fifth edition, Miami Project relocated to a parking garage in North Beach, steps from the Nada art fair and just a short drive from Surfside. The fair is one of the smaller ones with only 30 exhibitors but offers a calm environment to engage with the art and artists.

NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance) Fair
NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance) Fair returns to the Deauville Beach Resort on Collins Avenue at 67th Street this year. The non-profit arts organization celebrates it's 14th fair with 29 project spaces and over 100 exhibitors from 17 countries.

Prizm
PRIZM relocates to Little Haiti this year, presenting includes artworks by 55 international emerging African artists and artists from the Global African Diaspora. Instead of a collective of galleries, Prizm focuses on solo exhibitions by single artists for a two week duration. The mission is to bring awareness to a group of artists that are traditionally unrepresented in the art world.

PULSE
Pulse is notable for it’s contemporary art and focus on emerging artists. This year the fair is in two tents and highlights include an installation by artist Anne Spalter titled “Miami Marbles,” consisting of nine spheres printed with digitally manipulated images of Miami Beach. The onsite experience can be enhanced with a download of an app.

Untitled
A satellite fair operating since 2012, Untitled sits on a prime stretch of Miami Beach, right off of Ocean Drive. This year the fair is taking its location seriously, enlisting artists Rirkrit Tiravanijaand Tomas Vu to create a surf-inspired installation as an homage to beach culture.

X Contemporary
X Contemporary enters its second edition with two exciting exhibits – The Women Who Made Modern Art Modern and Early Works by Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Women Who Made Modern Art Modern profiles 12 women art dealers in the early aughts who helped shape the careers of some of the most important artists of the century.
