131 Projects Presents From Eden to Sahara

This week a group exhibition of some of Miami's best talents titled From Eden to Sahara opens at 131 projects. Taking its name from a book authored in the 1920's by John Kunkel Small that documented the degradation of Florida's environment, the works selected use nature as a subject matter, material or process. Each piece uses natural elements and reflects on the themes of natural habitat, plant life, and Native American village sites explored in Small's book.

Artists include Nicole Salcedo, Sarah MK Moody, AholSniffsGlue, Luke Chiswell, Filio Galvez and Jose Felix Perez. Watch the artists preview video here.

The opening reception is June 3rd, from 6 pm to 11 pm.

The Lobster Playing at O Cinema

PHOTOGRAPH COURTESY THE LOBSTER

Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz and John C. Riley star in the highly imaginative, delightfully absurdist comedy from visionary Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth) which won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film investigates the future where single people find themselves at a crossroads - couple up or be released into the animal kingdom. Dumped by his wife, David has to make a choice, find true love in 45 days or or be turned into an animal of his choice and released into the woods.

At once a full immersion into a strange and surreal world, The Lobster is a clever reflection of our own society, that also entertains.

Showing Friday, June 3rd - Thursday, June 9th.

Laura Lima Opens at ICA Miami

ICA Miami presents The Inverse by Laura Lima, the debut American solo museum exhibition for the renowned Brazilian artist. Using industrial nylon rope, Lima presents a site-specific installation, that entangles the gridded support beams of the museum’s Atrium Gallery with the braided material that seemingly dwindles in size until it seems to merge with a partially out-of-view female body.

Laura Lima's works have been seen around the world at both solo exhibitions and group shows. She is a co-founder and partner of the Galeria de Artes A Gentil Carioca in downtown Rio de Janeiro, where she lives and works.

The exhibit opens on Friday, June 3 and is on view through October 30, 2016. The opening reception starts at 7 pm and is open to the public.
