This week Fringe Projects launches a program of new commissions for this year's Downtown Art Days. Launching on Thursday, September 8th New York-based artist Siebren Versteeg debuts Small is Beautiful, a a six-day long intervention taking place on the digital canvas of the InterContinental Miami. The piece offers a complete transcription of the entire text of the book “Small is Beautiful: A Study of Economics as if People Mattered” by economist E.F. Schumacher on a constant scroll down the sides of the hotel.

In tandem New York-based artist Ben Vida will premier an electronic music piece titled Tracers that uses a process of digitally tracing preexisting recordings to extract control data. Vida traced recordings of a Cuban drum ensemble demonstrating Santeria rhythms and fed them into synthesizing systems to create dance tracks.

These two works are part of DWNTWN Art Days, a three day celebration of arts and culture supported by the Miami Downtown Development Authority and Miami Dade-County that will take place from September 9 - 11 this year. Other Fringe Projects artists include Cara Despain, Alan Gutierrez, and JPW3
